Civil War & Reconstruction (HIST 303)

Term: 2024-2025 - FALL

Description

This course will provide students with an introduction to the history of slavery, the Civil War, and Reconstruction in the United States—examining especially the many ways the actions, ideas, and laws of the period still shape our world today. We will delve into the fights of the past and the debates of the present; myths believed, fabricated, and destroyed; and the many ways historians have expanded our understanding of this era and its meanings in recent years. Our focus will be on critical thinking, critical reading, and critical writing. In the later portions of the course, students will design their own lessons and discussions for the class based on readings they have selected for study. Term Offered: Spring
