Organic Chemistry II (Lec/Lab)Synthesis and Spectroscopy (CHEM 344)

Term: 2024-2025 - SPRING

Schedule

Mon-Wed-Fri, 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM (1/6/2025 - 5/4/2025) Location: MAIN ORL 123

Description

This course applies the fundamentals learned in CHEM 343 to study how organic molecules are synthesized and their structures are identified. Radical reactions, alkene and alkyne additions, aromatic reactions, oxidations and reductions, and additional carbonyl reactions will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on using reactions in multi-step synthesis of larger and more complex molecules. The theory and practice of mass spectrometry and UV-Vis, IR, and NMR spectroscopy will be used to elucidate the structures of organic molecules. 3 credits lect., 1 credit lab. Prerequisite: CHEM 343. Offered: Spring
