As a therapist and counselor for over 20 years, I specialize in trauma. Specifically first responders & Military, peer to peer community mental wellness, and women's recovery.

Somatic Psychology, Buddhist Psychology, and Marriage and Family Counseling are my foundations and I have spent decades in the trenches working with folks to live well, recover and thrive after trauma using nervous system fluency and mindfulness along with somatic and transpersonal holistic methods. 

I work as a Learning and Development Director for a large health company that serves military service members and families all over the world. I also run a consulting business where I teach Peer 2 Peer Holistic Emotional First Aid to companies and agencies all over the globe.

During my free time I love being in nature, on a bike, paddle board, raft, or my own two feet. Taking photos is my self care, and I have lived from Hawaii to Alaska, spent time in 46 of the 48 lower US states and 13 countries as a military spouse and therapist.

Bio: I am originally from North Dakota - I attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and received bachelor degrees in psychology and communication. I then received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. In the last year of the Ph.D. program, I completed a full-time, APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID. My dissertation is titled "The Effectiveness of a Substance Abuse Treatment Group for At Risk College Students." 

After graduating, I taught full-time at universities in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and the Fargo area before deciding to go back into clinical work to get licensed. There were minimal options in North Dakota for someone at a doctoral level to do clinical training so I took a formal postdoc at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. I completed a postdoc and became a licensed psychologist. I then took a job at Miami University in Oxford, OH, where I worked for almost 5 yrs. I mainly did clinical work with college students but also coordinated their prevention programming, eating disorder treatment team, and taught their doctoral students’ assessment. I also taught an undergraduate class in psychology as an adjunct at Miami University.

Description

Principles and techniques of family counseling, study of family dynamics, family systems and theories of family counseling. Survey of marital counseling theories and techniques; analyses of dysfunctional communications. A consideration of the dynamics of marriage relationships is given. The emphasis is on understanding the structure and function of marriage, the various aspects of the marital relationship and ways the counselor may approach marriage counseling as a creative, preventative, and healing interaction. Prereq: Coun 510, 511.
