Description
An overview of elementary reading education-history, issues, state and national standards. Candidates will be introduced to techniques, procedures, strategies, methods, and materials in reading instruction. Includes an emphasis on instructional technologies. Examines the physical, psychological, and social factors involved in learning to read through grade 8. Reading theories and philosophies will be discussed. Taken as part of a methods block that requires a 30-hour field experience in which candidates prepare, teach, and assess lessons. Prerequisites: Admission to teacher education; Educ 313; Educ 316; Educ 303; Educ 306. Corequisites: Educ 315; Educ 342; Educ 423; and Educ 398 or Educ 399. Offered: Fall, Spring
